About the Event

Join us at the third Indie Author Conference & Showcase, a free conference for writers and a showcase of local self-published authors for readers.

Conference / 10:00 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.

In Administration Building Auditorium

Writers and authors: learn more about self-publishing. Attend one, two or all three sessions.

10:00 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. / “Find Your Writing Tribe”

You don’t have to write and publish alone with such a vibrant writing scene around you. Meet local representatives from nearby writing organizations and learn how they can support, encourage and improve your writing and publishing:

Literary Cleveland

Literary Akron

Northeast Ohio Romance Writers of America

Northeast Ohio Sisters in Crime

Northern Ohio Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.

Each organization will have a table outside the conference where you can ask questions and find more information.

11:00 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. / Mary Kathleen Glavich and Abby L. Vandiver, “Hybrid Authors: Best of Both Worlds”

Two successful authors, two paths to becoming hybrid: Mary Kathleen Glavich went from traditionally published to self-published, and Abby L. Vandiver went from self-published to traditionally published, both for very good reasons. Hear their stories and learn the pros and cons of being hybrid authors.

Mary Kathleen Glavich is a Sister of Notre Dame. Among her dozens of spiritual books are the traditionally published The Catholic Companion to Mary and Praying on Empty, and the self-published historical romance, The Fisherman's Wife: The Gospel According to St. Peter's Spouse.

Abby L. Vandiver has self-published over 20 mystery and science fiction books and hit the Wall Street Journal Bestsellers list in 2017. That same year, she contracted with Henery Press for a three-book deal to pen the Romaine Wilder Mysteries series. The first book, Secrets, Lies and Crawfish Pies, came out in June. Abby is represented by Rachel M. Brooks at Bookends Literary Agency.

12:00 p.m. - 12:45 p.m. / Jacqueline Lipton, "Legal Issues for Self-Published Writers”

Understand the basic legal issues self-published writers can face in today’s publishing world, such as copyright, trademark infringement, privacy and defamation. Jacqueline Lipton, M.F.A., Ph.D., is a law professor specializing in intellectual property law, privacy law, and the law of digital technology and has published numerous books on these subjects. She is the founder of Authography LLC, a company dedicated to assisting authors and artists with legal and business issues.

Showcase / 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

In Parma-Snow Auditorium

Browse this huge local author fair with an exciting selection of books for all ages. Meet over 50 local, independent authors and talk with them about their publishing experiences.
